More About Me
- What professional accomplishments are you most proud of?
-
We are proud of becoming one of the premier custom electronics installation companies in the world in only a short time (since 1994). We have been rated in the Top 100 in this industry since 1999. For 2008, DSI won an award for “Best User Interface” for designing an extremely simple and intuitive touchscreen interface for the popular Crestron line of controls. Any client can operate what se install. Also, for 2009, one of DSI’s projects won for “Best Home of the Year” from Electronic House magazine, and "Best Integrated Home in 2008 awarded by CEDIA. Winning awards from CEDIA, Electronic House, Crestron, and others has made our team proud of its accomplishments. Also, being featured in several magazines per year has further bolstered our reputation and satisfaction in a job executed with passion and professionalism.
- How would you characterize your philosophy towards design?
-
DSI Entertainment Systems owes much of its success from embracing the design community early on. Instead of combating others for pride of place in a room’s decor, we make the assumption that the technology is to disappear and merely serve to enhance a client’s lifestyle and not make a statement in itself.
- What design trends are most interesting to you?
-
One of my favorite design trends as it relates to the custom electronics industry is the trend of hiding technology. There are new technologies to make even thin flat panel TV’s disappear when not in use, and new technology allows speakers to nearly or completely disappear from the room’s aesthetic!
Another design trend that is finally catching on is systems integration, also known as Home Automation or “Smart Home” technology. Such systems greatly increase the interior aesthetics by combining such “wall acne” interfaces such as multiple light switches/dimmers, thermostats, security keypads, volume controls, etc. into easy-to-use touchscreens. These touchscreens are so intuitive to use we compare them to a bank ATM…if the client can withdraw cash from an ATM then he/she can easily control all of the home’s subsystems. There are many safety and lifestyle enhancing benefits that come along with these systems, too.
We see a trend in lighting control systems becoming nearly standard in luxury homes, at least in the common areas. Every Interior Designer knows the importance of a “just right” light setting for a room, and with such systems this is easy to recall with one button instead of many dimmers.
Lastly, the latest remote controls for home theater and media room systems are easier to use then ever. Ditch the coffee table full of remote controls and experience the ease of use and convenience that comes with a single icon-driven remote control that controls your music, TV, and even lighting.
- What is your approach to working with clients?
-
We like to show a client the various options available to them and demonstrate these in our lifestyle showroom. The showroom is set up like a luxury residence inside, not like a typical electronics showroom. Here clients can touch and see how today’s modern electronics add fun, safety, and convenience to their lives.
Once we show a potential client these options, we help establish budget guidelines in a relaxed and non-pressure way. This builds a comfort level between the client, the Interior Designer, and our staff.
