Project Details
This six thousand square foot loft was designed as a live/work studio for a Brazilian artist. Located in an industrial cove of a middle class Brooklyn neighborhood, the space was originally a light manufacturing garage spanning the width of three city lots. The exterior street frontage remains the discreet industrial character of the building and contrasts sharply with the light filled interior, which consists of living and working areas in a single large open space. The two areas are divisible by a translucent retractable wall, which when clased allows light to filter into the studio and library areas from the northern exposure of the rear facade and a forty foot linear skylight. The rear wall is an 18 foot high expance of glass and metal facing an enclosed garden which becomes part of the living space at the ground floor. An open rider steel stair defines the lne between the live and work areas and connects these to bedrooms and a large roof deck at the upper level.
