The designers of this home focused on bringing old-world French styling into an new world setting. In the kitchen, features such as light wood cabinetry, gorgeous chandeliers, and abundant copper cookware recall the elegance of Versailles while leaving behind the extravagance. The natural light coming in through the broad garden window of the kitchen underscore the brilliance of the decor.
The French country motif carries on through the rest of the house, yet the Californian influence is apparent. If the kitchen is the epicenter of European style in the house, the living room mantle displaying white sea shells shows off the west coast presence most prominently. This home retains an open and light hearted California feeling while touting the spirit of an rococo-era French home.

I agree, this house is elegant but not pretentious. I think the lighting is a good example of this, the aforementioned kitchen chandeliers reflect natural light from a wide comfortable garden window. The dual character of French and Californian living is executed perfectly.
I’m usually not much for chandeliers, they seem too grandiose for any kind of residential setting but ironically I love them in a pair in this kitchen. The feeling of this house is certainly an ornate one but somehow it also feels very much like a home. It looks like a place where in some distant past there might be servants working but now it seems sure to be inhabited by a caring homemaker.
