Talk about personal style! The Roberts’ kitchen in Carmel, CA, is a one-of-a-kind gem that shows off the family’s love of the ranch life and of Arabian horses.
When Tami, Jim, and their three daughters moved in six years ago, their rambling ranch home had little in common with its location. True, it was on six acres and had a seven-stall stable, but the nondescript pastel décor would have been more at home in any suburb than in the California hills—especially in the kitchen. “There was lots of white—counters, floors, cabinets,” Tami recalls. Admittedly, it was a reasonably nice and functional kitchen, “but it had dropped soffits and structural posts that made it feel shut off from the family room.” For Tami, who loves to cook and entertain—crowds of dozens or even 100 aren’t unusual—it just wouldn’t do.
