Project Details
The clients, long time summer residents of Cape Cod, wanted to build a house as a means to unite their large family. The site overlooks Buzzard’s Bay and has a unique westward view of the sunset, adjacency to a large pond, and sloping contours toward the water’s edge. Most importantly, the site holds a nostalgic aspect for one of the clients.
The program required accommodation for the clients along with three adult children & their immediate families. The client also wanted a pool and pool house, cutting garden, greenhouse, and tennis court and pavilion. The area is approximately 15,000 sq ft.
The materials and finishes were selected to blend with the natural landscape, directing attention to the natural surroundings, rather than the house. Chosen for its similarity to the existing beach sand, the retaining walls and fireplace chimneys were constructed in dense Pennsylvania stone.
