Project Story

This 3,000 sf home responds with openness and natural light to a tightly confined site in the heart of Venice Beach environment. Key requirements of the young owner were to maximize the views towards the Pacific and adjacencies to the outside, to maintain a sense of privacy within the home. The house folds around an interior courtyard and creates a central tranquil space on the narrow urban lot. With glass roll-up doors on both sides of the courtyard as well as the front facade, the ground floor allows for views and light to flow uninterrupted through the building.

By employing raw, honest material, the house responds to the Bohemian grittiness of Venice and dissolves the barriers between indoors and out. The easy flow of space is enhanced by the use of steel grilles for stair treads and galleries that seem to float in the lofty void at the center of the house, bathed in light from above and leading up to a roof terrace that’s fully equipped for parties.
