Project Details

The Newcastle Cottage was designed for a retired couple. Due to the house being the second on the property, we were limited to a maximum size of 1,200 square feet. So we designed this little house to give it a light airy feeling, a flow through spaces to expand the footprint of the home visually, and tucked in storage and built-ins wherever opportunities arose.

The main living space includes the living room, dining area and kitchen. To allow flexibility for larger gatherings, the dining room was designed with a long built-in seat, with loads of storage beneath the cushions. The kitchen is flanked on either end by cabinetry to create a sense of separation from the living room. The short hallway extending from the kitchen to the backdoor maintains the high ceiling height of the great room, and includes a built-in desk and book cases. Even the master bedroom has a window seat tucked in and upper storage above the closets for seasonal items.
