Project Details
This home was originally a small Victorian house built
in the late 19th century. It presented limitations
typical of the homes of the era: a very
compartmentalized floor plan, dark interior rooms, small
utilitarian kitchen and little connection to the
outdoors. The concept was to transform an existing
Victorian home to better suit the needs of a modern
family, with particular emphasis on changing the rear of
the house.
The new structure at the rear of the house was designed
to be a series of interconnected, multi-functional open
spaces for dining, cooking and common living. On the
third floor, bedrooms and bathrooms were added, a large
stair shaft, and a roof opening to allow light to reach
