Project Story
To the homeowner couple who had this dream house built right across the street from their old one, this new residence is like a gift begging to be opened. What lies inside the gift box is an incredible array of goodies – and for the couple, their dream home realized.
The architects employed the “French planning,” architectural style for this residence, where the house is long and one-room deep, with hallways on the home’s street side. The house structure was pushed as far toward the lake as possible. Unique design details transform functional forms such as staircases and fixtures into house jewelry. Metalwork is used as a unifying element throughout, and is shown in the artistic steel railings, distressed stainless-steel hearths and fireplace surrounds, a bar top, and even furniture. There are green marbles are everywhere, atop staircase posts and custom cabinetry and doors. At night, the home literally glows, with the exterior light cages emitting a greenish light that echoes the lighting indoors.
The wine cellar, the homeowners’longtime wish, features elegant steel doors. A spiral staircase leads from the wine cellar to the mudroom and then to the master bedroom. In the master bedroom, ceiling beams done in steel are adorned with green glass marbles – a decorating element that is carried all throughout the house. The daughter’s bedroom is also the fulfillment of a wish – a request for an unusual room – and her gift is this round shaped bedroom with a domed ceiling. Truly like having Christmas or a birthday everyday.
